Big Blue

A Quilting Milestone for Freddy

This is quilt 2 of 2 in my sampler quilts. The first one, Fall Leaves, was for my mom. This is the second colorway I purchased for my block of the month class early on in my quilting career. The blocks are identical to quilt #1 but these blocks I did after I learned the technique in class. When I sit this side by side to the first quilt, it’s amazing to see my progress. Big Blue represents the notion of - if I had to do that block over again what what I do?. I love this quilt. I love the colors, the blocks, everything. This was my first attempt at what I call a complex border - which in the quilting world, isn’t complex at all. In this quilt I am also using one of my all time favorite fabrics - in the border. I bought enough of it to someday make a nice mens shirt out of it. Another big milestone is that this was the first quilt I did custom quilting with the long arm. The primary block pattern is from Karley Porter but the sashing, cornerstones and border are all custom designed by Tom Mitchell and quilted by me. This is dedicated and given to Tom as a small thanks for all the support he has given me to support my craft. Keep warm, Tom. And clean your hands after each popcorn sitting! No butter fingers on Big Blue! LOL
